An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted in the Center on May 22, 2019. Licensing Inspectors E. Moore and J. Mellnick arrived at the center and began the inspection at approximately 11:10AM. There were 75 children present in 7 classrooms. The ages of the children ranged from infancy to five years. As reported 79 children are currently enrolled in the program. Staff were observed interacting with the children. The children were observed during free play (centers) in their classrooms, outdoor play, structured activities, the lunch meal, and dismissal. The physical plant was clean and maintained in good condition. Each classroom was supplied with age appropriate materials and equipment. Staff were observed interacting with the children. A sample of 8 children's and 8 staff records was reviewed. Medications were observed in the center. Documentation of the fire and health inspections was reviewed. The first aid kit, posted emergency procedures and documentation of the practiced emergency drills was observed. Reminder: an evacuation drill is due for May. Standard #: 22VAC40-191-40-D-1-A Description: Based on review of records, the center failed to obtain a national fingerprint background check for an agent. Evidence: Upon review, the center did not have the following documentation available: a verified national finger print background check for staff A. Plan of Correction: An appointment will be scheduled immediately to obtain a fingerprint background check. Documentation will be retained in the center.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-1 Description: Based on a sample review of children's records, the center failed to obtain a national fingerprint background check for each staff. Evidence: One of six reviewed records did not contain documentation of a national background check. The record of staff 1 contained a verified VA background check dated 1/10/18. Plan of Correction: The PD will inform the staff, an appointment will be scheduled immediately to obtain a fingerprint background check. Documentation will be retained in the staff's record.
