Title: Emergency Preparedness for Early Childhood Providers
Description: According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) more than 40% of businesses never reopen after a disaster. While this is problematic for many community sectors, it is most devastating on the child care industry with significant ripple effects on children and families. Simply put, if child care programs are closed, parents cannot return to work and recovery cannot begin. Ensuring the continued operation of high-quality child care programs is essential for families, communities, and the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children. Virginia has developed new regulations that will make providers aware of the different emergencies that can occur to a child care business and have plans to cope with those emergencies. To support programs in meeting these regulations, we will deliver a training that will cover topics, such as loss of power/water, medical emergencies, shelter-in-place, fire, floods, gas/chemical leaks, transportation accidents, animal/pet safety, allergies, natural disasters, and acts of violence. This training is free and open to early childhood providers, with priority given to those accepting state subsidy and serving the infant / toddler population.
