  • Center for Applied Linguistics Cultural Orientation Resources Center (COR):
    Established in 1959, the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), based in Washington, D.C., is a private, nonprofit organization working to improve communication through better understanding of language and culture. The COR Center specializes in the development of materials that help refugees understand fundamental aspects of life in the United States. The COR Center produces culture profiles and refugee backgrounders to provide key information to the history and cultural backgrounds of refugee populations.
  • Human Rights First:
    Human Rights First is a leading human rights advocacy organization first established in 1978. The organization has worked in the U.S. and abroad to create a more secure and humane world - through advancing justice and human dignity. Their Web site includes links and updates on human rights violation and immigration reform legislation.
  • National Immigration Forum:
    The National Immigration Forum was formed with the mission to embrace and uphold America’s tradition as a nation of immigrants. The organization advocates and builds support for public policies that welcome immigrants and refugees. Their Web site includes information about proposed immigration legislation, archived news articles, and a community resource bank relaying information on a wide range of immigration-related topics.
  • Refugee Council USA (RCUSA):
    RCUSA is a coalition of non-governmental organizations focused on refugee protection.
  • United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR):
    The UNHCR is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. The UNHCR Web site provides international statistics and links to news sources.
  • U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI):
    The USCRI's mission is to address the needs and rights of persons in forced or voluntary migration worldwide. The USCRI is focused on advancing fair and humane public policy, facilitating and providing direct professional services and promoting the full participation of migrants in community life throughout the world. The USCRI houses the Anti Warehousing Campaign and the annual World Refugee Survey.
  • U.S. Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM):
    The PRM administers and monitors U.S. contributions to international and non-governmental organizations to assist and protect refugees abroad.
  • International Fund for Refugee Women and Children:
    This is a new public-private partnership on behalf of the Department of State. It provides a mechanism for private sector donations to enhance existing PRM programs with a focus on protection, basic education, and vocational training for refugee women and children. It will direct the contributions to carefully chosen and monitored projects designed to help refugee women and children craft a better future and more secure life.
  • U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR):
    The ORR plans, develops and directs the implementation of a comprehensive program for domestic refugee and entrant resettlement assistance. It develops, recommends, and issues program policies, procedures and interpretations to provide program direction.
