Child Care: Children and Families Served

How this program helps people

The Child Care Subsidy Program is designed to promote economic self-sufficiency and child development by assisting families with the cost of providing substitute parental care, protection, guidance, and early childhood education. Policies and strategies are intended to educate parents and promote informed decision-making when selecting a child care provider; to provide low-income families with financial assistance to find affordable, quality child care for their children; and to support parents trying to achieve independence from public assistance.

Child Care Expenditures

How this program helps people

TANF child care provides subsidies for TANF recipients to support their employment, enable participation in VIEW activities or in approved education or training, and for child protective services. Transitional child care provides up to 12 months of child care subsidies following closure of the TANF case for income-eligible, employed clients. Fee child care requires co-payment by clients and provides child care subsidies for income-eligible, non-TANF families to support their employment, approved education or training, or for child protective services.

Staff allowance is the amount provided to localities towards the administrative costs of determining child care eligibility.
