Comments:
Licensing Inspector arrived at 9:15 and departed at 10:45 AM to conduct a monitoring visit. At the time of the inspection, there were 35 children (ages infant through preschool) in care with six staff. Children were observed participating in circle time, free play activities and outdoor play. All center documents were reviewed. The sample size was three staff and four children's records. Violations were noted in the areas of special care provisions & emergencies and background checks.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the facility did not ensure that the diaper disposal system used in the infant area was foot operated. Evidence: Although the trash can in the infant room was designed to be used "foot-operated", when the foot pedal was stepped on the can did not operate.

Plan of Correction: Center management stated that a new can would be purchased and placed in the infant room.

Standard #: 63.2-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on review of three staff records, it was determined that the facility did not ensure that any staff member who had lived outside of the state of Virginia in the last five years obtained a child protective services check from that state. Evidence: The record for staff #2 indicated that she had lived in Texas within the past five years. There was no documentation that a child protective services check for Texas had been requested.

Plan of Correction: Center management will submit check and place documentation in the staff member's file.
