22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted with the director beginning at 10:00 AM and ending at 2:40 PM. There were forty six children in care during the inspection. The children's ages ranged between three months through five years old. The infants were observed being fed, playing with manipulatives, and being held by caregivers. The older children were observed practicing the colors in Spanish, painting, and playing outside. Ten children's records were reviewed and in in compliance. Five staff records were reviewed. Four medications were reviewed and in compliance. The first aid kit, flashlight, and weather-band radio were observed and in compliance. The most recent emergency escape drill was documented as 5/21/18. The most recent shelter-in-place drill was documented as 12/20/17. The most recent lockdown drill was documented as 6/15/17. The most recent fire inspection was documented as 3/27/18. The most recent health inspection was documented as 2/22/18. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center did not maintain all areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Evidence: There is a gap approximately 3/4 inch wide between the sidewalk and Astroturf which is a tripping hazard. The water fountain on the small playground has two push buttons that are missing and holes in the side which are scratch hazard. Plan of Correction: The center will complete a maintenance request to have the repairs completed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation not all hazardous substance were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: There were two spray bottles of cleaning solution left in a cabinet underneath the changing area in the infant B classroom. The labels on the cleaning solution stated keep out of reach of children. Plan of Correction: The cabinet was locked during the inspection. The center will retain the infant staff on the importance of locking up hazardous materials.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, not all of the diapering surfaces were nonabsorbent. Evidence: The changing pad in the infant A class room had cracks on the corners making it absorbent. Plan of Correction: The center ordered a new changing pad.
