Today sight sound supervision was reviewed.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9am through 11am. There were 18 children in care ages 2 - 5 years old with four staff. There was not an administrator present today. Children were observed interacting in learning centers, restroom routines, transitions, hand washing, snack and music and movement. Children and staff records were reviewed as well as required postings and emergency drills. Violations regarding food brought from home and unlocked chemicals and appear on the violation notice.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances are kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1 - There are unlocked cleaning and sanitizing chemicals in a closet in the 4/5 year old room. These items are located on an upper open shelf. a. The door to the closet was slightly in the open position so that the door opened easily. b. There were four cans of disinfectant, 1 container of bleach wipes, 1 spray bottle of sanitizer and 1 pump bottle of hand sanitizer. c. All state keep out of reach of children and harmful. 2 - Staff 1 stated that a parent left the closet door open. Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection. Center management will remind and retrain staff in the need to ensure that all chemicals are locked up when not in use.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that when food is brought from home the food container is clearly dated. Evidence: 1 - 10 out of 17 lunch containers reviewed are not proper labeled with the date. a. 8 lunch containers do not have any date on them. b. 2 lunch containers are dated 6/7/18. Today is the 8th of June. 2 - Staff 1 stated that morning staff did not put the date on the lunch bags when children arrived this morning. Plan of Correction: Center management will remind and retrain all children in the need for all lunch containers to be properly labeled with current date that the lunch was brought into the center.
