An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today, July 18, 2018 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 1:35pm and concluded at approximately 4:10pm. Upon arrival, the following ratios were observed: Infant room: 5 infants/ 2 staff Toddler room: 4 toddlers/ 1 staff Two year olds room: 5 children/ 1 staff Three year olds room: 9 children/ 2 staff School age children 22 children/ 3 staff Children were observed interacting with staff, playing with toys, playing outdoors, and departing for the evening. Children's books, toys, and equipment were inspected and found to be age appropriate and in operable condition. All classrooms were inspected to include main hallways and children's restrooms. The blacktop area used for outdoor play was inspected with no hazards found. Children outside had access to three designated shaded areas and cold water. The center had the required postings displayed on the wall upon entering the center. Today's lunch consisted of sliced turkey, watermelon, potato salad, wheat bread, and milk. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected with additional supplies found. Five children's records, three staff records, and all board member records were inspected with the required information present. The following was also inspected: fire/health inspections, fire/shelter-in-place drills, injury prevention plan & annual updates, parent agreements, and other pertinent information. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-160-A Description: Based on the inspection of staff records, the required tuberculosis test (TB) or screening was not available to review. Evidence: Based on the inspection of three staff records, it was discovered that staff #3 did not have a TB test or screening in the record. Licensing standards requires the center to obtain documentation that staff has submitted a negative TB test or screening no later than 21 days after employment or completed within 12 months prior to employment. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-K Description: Based on the inspection of administrative records, the required documentation was not available to review. Evidence: During the inspection of administrative records, it was discovered the playground safety procedures were not available to review. Licensing standards require centers to develop written playground safety procedures to include supervision by staff and maintaining resilient surfaces. Plan of Correction: Per director: I will locate our playground safety plan and update them if needed.
