An unnaounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 12noon through 1:30pm. There were five children in care with two teaching staff and one family service worker. Children present range in age from four to five years old. Children's and staff emergency contact information were reviewed. Staff records are housed at a central location and will be reviewed at a later date. Children were observed during lunch, transitions, restroom routines, hand washing, and nap. A violations related to meal service was observed and appears on the violation notice.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Evidence: 1 - The lunch menu called for BBQ meatballs, pasta salad with tomatoes, broccoli and carrots and milk. However, children were served a quarter cup of pasta salad with vegetables. However, the amount of vegetables in the salad did not allow for each child to receive the required 1/2 cup of vegetable for the five children present. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the amount of vegetables present in the pasta salad was not enough for each child to receive a 1/2 cup serving of vegetables. 3 - Review of full month menu showed every other meal plan showed a 1/4 cup of a vegetable and a 1/4 cup of fruit. 4 - There was not any other foods available to serve children. Plan of Correction: Center management will review menu planning to ensure that the required portions of each food group are served to children
