Standard #: 22VAC40-185-490-B
Complaint related: Yes
Description: Based on interview and record review, a child that needed to be excluded from their class due to illness did not remain in the designated quiet area away from the other children until leaving the center. Evidence: On 8/27/2018 at approximately 9:00am the parents of Child #1 were contacted to let them know that their child was running a temperature and that Child #1 would need to be picked up as soon as possible. Child #1 was picked up from the center at 9:45am. Center management confirmed that Child #1 was clinging to their teacher and did not want to leave the class. The staff member attempted to hold Child #1 as much as possible to limit illness exposure to the other children. Child #1 was permitted to remain with their class until the parents arrived to pick up. The staff members were cleaning and sanitizing throughout the day.

Plan of Correction: We were attempting to comfort the child as best as possible. Separating him from the class was causing him distress. Reviewed the illness policy with all staff/ The teachers followed and will continue to follow cleaning procedures throughout the day to prevent the spread of illness.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
