Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection from 10:50am - 12:15pm. There were fifteen preschool children in care with two staff and one volunteer. The children were observed playing in the centers, at circle time and preparing for lunch. Five children's records were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. If you have any questions, please contact your licensing inspector at (276) 608-3758. Thank you for your cooperation.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-4
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain the staff/children ratios (1 staff per 10 children) for children age 3 years to 5 years. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the classroom. Upon entrance there were fifteen preschoolers (age 3 years to 5 years) in care with two staff supervising. Staff #1 (who is also the cook) left the classroom and entered the kitchen to finish preparing lunch. The kitchen and classroom are separated by a closed door. The cook was in the kitchen at one time for 10 minutes. This left staff #2 (teacher) alone supervising fifteen preschoolers.

Plan of Correction: The central office staff will ensure that a floater is in the classroom whenever a staff member is off work. The central office staff will talk with the teacher and discuss procedures to follow when a staff member is absent from work.
