An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted with center director and center staff on October 18, 2018 to determine compliance with the licensing standards. There were 87 children present, ranging in age from 9 weeks to 5 years old, with eleven staff actively supervising. The children were finishing lunch and laying down for rest time. Lunch served today: chicken, peas, and rice with milk and peaches. The last health inspection was conducted 7/20/2018. The last fire inspection was conducted 12/8/2017. The last shelter in place drill was conducted 9/14/2018. Eleven medications for eight children were reviewed - please see Supplemental Summary for missing items. There are four staff current in Medication Administration Training. Five children's files were reviewed and are in compliance. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, the facility failed to have a leakproof covered receptacle for soiled linens. Evidence: the soiled linen container was an open laundry basket that was not covered and was not leakproof. There was a soiled blanket in the basket. Plan of Correction: Center director will get a covered leakproof receptacle for the soiled linens.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on review of medications, the facility failed to return an outdated medication to the parent. Evidence: a prescription medication for Child 3 expired 3/2017 and was not returned to the parent. A prescription medication for Child 5 expired 5/2018 and was not returned to the parent. Plan of Correction: The medication will be returned to the parent or will be destroyed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on review of medications, the facility failed to notify the parent that the medication needed to be picked up within 14 days of the when the authorization for a medication expires. Evidence: the short term medication authorization completed by the parent for a non prescription medication for Child 1 expired 9/20/2018. The medication was not returned to the parent within 14 days. Plan of Correction: The parent will be notified that the medication needs to be picked up or it will be destroyed.
