63.2 Facilities & Programs.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:20am-12:30pm. There were 70 children directly supervised by 10 staff. The physical plant, 6 staff records, 6 children?s records, 5 medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, playing outside, making observations on a science project, participating in music and movement class and eating lunch. Lunch served was quinoa, corn, peas and chicken. Hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-4 Description: Based on observation, the center did not maintain a ratio of 1 staff for 10 children ages 3-5 years of age. Evidence: During lunch time, Staff 1 was observed supervising 12 children, ages 4-5yrs old, in the room alone. When interviewed, Staff 1 stated the Staff 2 stepped out for a moment. Approximately, 3-4 minutes later the staff member returned to the classroom. Plan of Correction: Staff entered the classroom bringing the classroom back into ratio. Administration will discuss calling the front desk for an additional person if a teacher needs to step out.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-E Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure all medication was labeled with the child's name. Evidence: In the Whale's classroom, one medication was not labeled with the child's name. Plan of Correction: Upon insepction, medication was labeled with child's name.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G Description: Based on observation, all lunches from home were not labelled with a date. Evidence: In the Whale's classroom, two lunch boxes were observed with no date. Plan of Correction: Upon inspection, lunch boxes were labeled with the date.
