Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted in the center on October 15, 2018. The inspection was not completed on this date due to power failure in the center and early dismissal of the children. The LI observed staff and children outdoors on the playground. The inspection was completed on November 1, 2018. There were 32 children present in the two classrooms. As reported, 36 children are currently enrolled. A sample of 6 children's records was reviewed. Documentation of the annual fire and health inspections was current. Prescribed medications were observed in the center. The center was clean and organized, each classroom was supplied with age appropriate materials for the children's use. Staff were observed interacting with the children. Findings were reviewed at exit. If you have any questions, please call this Licensing Inspector at (540)309-2310. Thank you.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on direct observations, the Center failed to ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials and other beauty aids were kept in a locked place. Evidence: 1. The LI observed a bottle of nail polish remover and hand sanitizer sitting on top of a file cabinet. The file cabinet was in an area where the children eat and in the area where the children pass to exit to the playground and to the bathrooms. Staff removed the items upon notice. 2. Staff was observed taking a commercial spray can cleaner from the wall cabinet in the front part of classroom B, the cabinet was not locked. Staff removed the can prior to the LI checking the cabinets.

Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded to follow center's policies and will continue to monitor the classrooms to ensure all hazardous materials are kept locked.
