Current Inspector: Emily Walsh (757) 404-2575

Inspection Date: Jan. 14, 2019

Complaint Related: Yes

Areas Reviewed:

A complaint investigation was inititated at the facility today in response to a complaint received in the Eastern licensing office December, 2018. The complainant alleged excessive illnesses of children due to inadequate hand washing and sanitizing practices. Also alleged was a failure to notify parents of children's illnesses. The investigation included review of records and practices/procedures, staff interviews and observation. The allegation of inadequate handwashing and equipemnt santitation was determined to be not valid. Procedures and past practice of notifying parents of children's illnesses via letters and notices on the family service board determined that parents are adequately notified of children's illnesses. A complaint related violation regarding a designated quiet space for ill children was cited and can be found on the violation notice. An exit meeting was conducted with the program director prior to closure of the inspection/investigation.

Evidence: 1. Classroom staff stated that children with fevers or recurrent diarrhea or vomiting usually remain in an area of the classroom until being picked up by the parent(s). Staff were unable to identify a designated quiet area in which children are to be when ill and waiting for parent pick-up. 2. Staff 1 stated that there is not a designated space to which an ill child is to brought to await parent pick-up.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following: Plans for creating a designated quiet space for ill children will be discussed with staff and put into practice.
