Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 1:45pm-12:45pm. There were 35 children directly supervised by 2 staff. The physical plant, 4 staff training records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in playing outside. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-4
Description: Based on record review, children for whom emergency medications have been prescribed were not always in the care of a staff member or independent contractor who meets the requirements to administer the medication. Evidence: Child 3 requires emergency medication to be present at the center. On the date of inspection there was no documentation present to support that any staff member present at the facility had received the required training necessary to administer the emergency medication.

Description: Based on medication review, the center did not have a procedure in place to prevent administering expired medication to a child. Evidence: Child 4 has an emergency medication present at the child the center. On the date of inspection 2/4/19 the medication was observed to have expired10/2018.

Plan of Correction: We will follow up with the parent for a replacement medication.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-G
Description: Based on review of medication documentation, the center agreed to administer medications to a child without a written authorization from a parent. Evidence: An authorization for medication of Child 4 was effective for the 2017-2018 school year.
