Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on March 20,2019 from approximately 9:15a.m. to 12:00p.m. Forty-nine children were in care during the inspection. Staff and children, ages three to five years old, were observed in four classrooms with adequate ratios. Children and staff were observed engaging in activities to include circle time, snack time and outside play. Children?s equipment, learning materials, outdoor and classroom space, rest rooms and the first aid and emergency supplies were inspected. The center provides transportation but the bus driver takes the bus home daily. The center administers medications but there are no enrolled children taking medications currently. Five children?s records, five staff records, annual fire and health inspections, fire drill and shelter in place logs, daily health observation and medication administration certifications, injury reports, the injury prevention plan, daily attendance, the emergency preparedness plan and required postings were reviewed. The Administrative Assistant was available for interview and the inspection and was present at the exit interview at which time inspection findings were reviewed. There was one citation for a violation of the Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers. See the violation notice on the Department?s public web site for violations of the Standards.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation of classroom space, the licensee failed to keep hazardous materials locked using a locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1. Hand sanitizer, labeled with hazardous warnings, was observed unlocked in three classrooms, used by children three to five years old. 2. Administrator #1 acknowledged this hand sanitizer was not locked.

Plan of Correction: The Administrative Assistant will provide the teachers education on the Standards regarding hazardous materials and will ensure these items are locked as necessary.
