- Technical Assistance:
Discussed the requirement, for facilities that have agreed to administer medication, to have a staff member with current Medication Administration Training (MAT) certification on site at all times the facility is open.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 11:15 am - 2:15 pm with the center co-directors. There were 45 children, ranging from two months to five years of age, present with 7 staff supervising. Children were observed creating sensory art projects, listening to a story, washing hands and eating lunch. Lunch served today was turkey, brown rice, corn, mixed fruit and milk. Five children's files and four staff files were reviewed and in compliance. The emergency escape drill log was observed and in compliance. The playground was observed and in compliance. Three emergency medications and authorization forms were reviewed. If you have questions regarding this inspection, contact Donna Liberman at 540-359-5244 or email Donna.Liberman@dss.virginia.gov.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-1 Description: Based on review of documentation, and an interview with the director, the center did not have a staff member with current Medication Administration Training (MAT) certification in the building. Evidence: The MAT certification for staff members expired on 4/1/2019. One staff member with current MAT certification is not working at this center today. Two children with emergency medications were present during the inspection. Plan of Correction: Will ensure that the staff member who has current MAT certification is present in this building at all times. Will work to get the other staff members recertified.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-G Description: Based on review of three medications, the center did not have written authorization to administer medication to a child in care. Evidence: The center did not have a medication authorization form signed by a physician and parent for Child A's medication. Plan of Correction: Parent will bring the authorization form in today.
