The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection from 9:00am - 12:30pm. There were twenty two children in care: eleven 2 and 3 year olds with two staff, six 3 and 4 year olds with two staff and five 4 and 5 year olds with two staff. The children were observed at circle time, coloring, playing on the playground and during lunch. The 4 and 5 year old class was celebrating graduation. Five staff's records, five children's records and four board officer's records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and one was repeated. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain the facility in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the inside and outside of the center. In the classroom for the 3 and 4 year olds, there is a window blind that is broken with sharp edges. Also in this classroom, there is a television on a table that is a tipping hazard. On the playground, the inspector observed three bee hives in the ceiling of the large wood play structure. Also on the playground, there is a board pulling loose from the small wood play structure with the green slide. The board is located on the under side of the structure platform and has a crack in the wood. Plan of Correction: The director will purchase a new blind and replace the broken one. A tie-down will be added to the television. The bee hives will be removed from the play equipment today. The boards on the small play structure will be replaced within two weeks. The children will not play on this equipment until the repairs are made.
