63.2 Child Abuse & Neglect

Comments:
An unannounced Renewal inspection was conducted this date. A total of 118 children with 25 staff present. Majority of the classes were outside on the playground when the Inspector arrived this morning. Staff were strategically placed throughout the playground in order to provide adequate supervision. Staff were observed interacting with the children, pushing them on swings, encouraging participation and assisting the younger children with climbing the slide. The toddlers were enjoying pushing toy mowers together. Walk thru of all classrooms conducted this date. Observation of diapering, review of medications and preparation for lunch was made. A total of 10 children's records and 5 staff records were reviewed and found complete. The center and grounds were found well maintained. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A
Description: Based on observation of the infant class, hand washing procedures were not followed. Evidence: Three infants were seated to eat, staff did not wash or wipe the children's hands prior to eating. Staff did not wash hands prior to feeding the children.

Plan of Correction: We will in service these staff about hand washing and the importance of hand washing.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-A
Description: Based on observation of the Toddler class, skin products were kept beyond the expiration date. Evidence: Two diaper creams were found with expiration dates of 11/2018 and 5/2019.

Plan of Correction: We will either dispose of these ointments or return them to the parents.
