The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on 08/21/2019 from 9:15am to 1:10pm. The children were observed playing outside, playing in centers, eating lunch and preparing for nap. A formal observation was completed with the preschool and school age classrooms. The menu was posted. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection, and the inspector interacted with children in each classroom when appropriate. All classrooms, the playground and the center's mini bus was inspected today. Five children?s records and five employee records were reviewed during this inspection. The center administers medication; however they did not have any being given at this time. Two injury reports were reviewed. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill: 03/29/2019 Last shelter-in-place drill: 07/18/2019 Last fire inspection: 06/21/2019 Last health inspection: 11/30/2018 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Toddlers ? 8:3 Twos - 6:1 Preschool ? 7:1 School Age - 3:1 The violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. The center's playground fence had two protruding nails and sharp and splintering wood. 2. There were several areas in the center with chipped and peeling paint. Plan of Correction: Repairs will be completed by 9/20/2019.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: The preschool classroom had two unlocked cleaners within the reach of children. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection.
