An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 4:30pm through 6pm. There were 34 children in care ages three through six years old with seven teachers and the program director. Children and staff records were reviewed. A walking of the building was completed. Required postings, annual inspections, emergency evacuation drills first aid kit and medication were reviewed. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including restroom routines, hand washing, snack, and play activities. A single violation regarding background checks was identified and appears on the violation notice. The violation was discussed with the program director at the conclusion of the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2 Description: Based on observation and interview the center does not have a central registry finding within 30 days of employment for each staff.
Evidence:
1 - The records for staff 2 and 3 do not have documentation of central registry findings. Both staff were present during the inspection and were observed providing direct to care to children enrolled in the program.
a. Staff 2 has a documented date of hire as September 9, 2019.
b. Staff 3 has a documented date of hire as September 13, 2019.
2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the required central registry background checks were not present in the records of staff 2 and 3.Plan of Correction: Going forward center management will ensure that background checks are requested and obtained with required time frames.
