Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, December 12, 2019 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. Most but not all standards were reviewed during today's inspection. The inspection was initiated at 2:30 pm and concluded at 4:15 pm. The inspection was conducted along with the owner as the director was not in attendance this afternoon. Upon the inspectors arrival school age children were arriving from the public schools. School age children gathered in the cottage where they practiced for a play of The Grinch. Preschool children were observed having center time, listening to a story and working on Christmas art projects. Pre-kindergarten children had time outside on the playground along with the two year old classroom. All classrooms were inspected. The center had the following information posted; license, emergency numbers, evacuation maps/procedures and daily schedules. Children provide their own meals. The first aid kits for each building and floor were checked and found complete along with the non-medical emergency supplies. The inspector interacted with staff and children in care.

Six children?s records and five staff records were reviewed during today's inspection. Per the owner: medication is not being administered.

Today census:
Twos- 3 children with 1 staff.
Preschool (two & threes) 7 children with 1 staff.
Preschool (3-4 year old) 8 children with 1 staff.
Pre-K- ( 4-5 year old) 10 children with 1 staff.
Kindergarten: 12 children with 1 staff.
School age: 20 children with 2 staff.

Violations cited during the licensing period were checked for corrections. There was one repeat violation cited during today's inspection. If you have any questions about this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector at (804) 662-9758.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-160-C
Description: Based on review of staff records, the center did not obtain results of a follow-up tuberculosis screening, at least every two years from the date of the first initial screening or testing for staff.

Evidence:

The most recent documentation of a tuberculosis screening for staff #5 was dated 09/26/2017, exceeding the requirement to renew every two years.

Plan of Correction: Per the owner: We will have the staff update their TB test.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-80-A
Description: Based on interview, the center did not maintain a written record of children in attendance each day.

Evidence:

1. There was no written record of school age children in attendance on 12/12/2019.
2. Staff stated he did not have a written record of the school age children in attendance.

Plan of Correction: Per the owner: We will have the school age teachers record attendance daily.
