Technical Assistance:
Discussion on daily activities for toddlers and preschoolers, physical plant, and staff records.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from approximately 11:40 am to 2:00 pm. There were 41 children supervised by 6 direct care staff. The physical plant, 4 staff records, 5 children?s records, children's nutrition, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies were inspected. Medications were on-site today and records were reviewed. The children were observed in free play, center activities and transitioning to lunch, outside play, and napping. There were age appropriate materials for all children. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance.

Areas of noncompliance are identified on the violation notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-50-A
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all times staff and children's records were treated confidentially.
Evidence: 1. Observed the supplemental page from a previous inspection (dated 2/13/2019) was posted. The supplemental page contains staff and children's names and is required not to be posted and to be treated confidential.

Plan of Correction: Will take down

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-A
Description: Based on staff records review, 1 out 4 records, the center did not ensure staff completed training by the end of their first day of assuming job responsibiliites for recognizing child abuse and neglect and the legal requirements for reporting suspected child abuse.
Evidence: Staff #4 did not have documentation in file for Child Abuse and Neglect Training.

Plan of Correction: Staff had prior training. Will get a copy from staff.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-H
Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure purses were stored in areas that were were accessible to children.
Evidence: A purse was located in a chair in the classroom for three to six-year-old children. A purse was located in a cubby in the hallway near the Toddler's classroom.

Plan of Correction: Corrected during the visit.
Request staff to have purses above 5 feet.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-A
Description: Based on records review, the center did not have an emergency preparedness plan that addresses staff responsibility and facility readiness with respect to emergency evacuation and shelter-in-place.
Evidence: The center was not able to provide documentation of the emergency preparedness plan when requested.

Description: Based on observation, the center did not have menu listing foods to be served for snacks during the current one-week period.
Evidence: There was not current posting of menu of snack provided for children for this week.
