Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. There were forty children in care: twenty two children children ages 2 - 3 downstairs with five staff and eighteen children ages 3 - 5 upstairs with three staff. The director was also present. The children were observed playing with blocks, during music, playing outside and during lunch. Five staff's records and five children's records were reviewed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to have all hazardous substances stored in a locked place.
Evidence:
1. The inspector observed the upstairs bathroom off from the kitchen. There was a container of Lysol in the base cabinet and the cabinet was not locked. The inspector observed the art room. There were two cans of chalkboard paint sitting on a shelf above the sink. The containers were inaccessible to the children, but were not stored in a locked place.

Plan of Correction: The director placed all three containers in a locked place during the inspection and staff will monitor to ensure all hazardous substances are stored in a locked place.

Description: Based on document reviews, the center failed to document two shelter-in-place drills annually.
Evidence;
1. The inspector reviewed the documentation for evacuation drills and shelter-in-place drills. There was only one shelter-in-place drill documented for 2019.

Plan of Correction: The director said two shelter-in-place drills were practiced, but only one was documented.
