An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on August 9th 2017 between 10:00am and 11:50am. There were 54 children in the direct care of 11 staff members. Children were observed having water play on an inflatable slide, programming robots to complete various degrees of challenges, creating stop motion animation movies, and constructing robots. Staff were observed to be consistently engaged with the children to assist with the challenge directives, programming, and creation of the projects. Staffing records, children's records, first aid supplies, the physical space, supervision, and the evacuation drills were reviewed and inspected. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-210-A Description: Based on record review, 1 of 5 staffing records reviewed does not have proper education documentation. Evidence: Staff #1 is a program leader and is required to verify completion of a high school program or the equivalent. The record does not contain documentation to prove the requirement. Plan of Correction: We will transfer paperwork from headquarters to Mclean site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on direct observation, the center did not maintain that hazardous substances, such as cleaning materials, were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: In the Micros classroom there was a disinfectant spray and cleaning wipes on tables. Plan of Correction: Staff will use child safe locks to lock away all cleaning supplies.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-460-A Description: Based upon observation, there were not two staff persons supervising a water activity. Evidence: At the arrival of the licensing inspector, there was 1 staff member supervising 10 children on an inflatable water slide and 3 children in the building doorway. The staff person was located at the door and was unable to view the bottom portion of the slide area. Plan of Correction: Staff will be positioned so that two staff are monitoring the slide area at all times.
