Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted in the family day home on November 13, 2014. There were 8 children in the care of the Provider and an Assistant. The ages of the children ranged from 5 months to 5 years, the total points were 19. The children were observed during free play, several children played with blocks and several children worked puzzles. The lunch meal was also observed, each parent provides their child's meal. After lunch, the children played and prepared for nap/rest time. Other observed activities included hand washing and the diapering procedures. A discussion was held with the Provider regarding the use of sanitizing wipes. The wipes are not acceptable for sanitizing purposes on the diapering surface. A sample of 5 records was reviewed, 3 children's and two caregivers. Documentation of the caregivers' training was reviewed and each caregiver had exceeded the required 16 annual hours. Documentation of the family day home's emergency drills was also reviewed. The Provider reported medications are not administered. The on-site inspection was conducted from approximately 10:30AM to 2:00PM. If you have any questions, please call (540)204-9625. Thank you.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-800-C
Description: Based on documentation review, each caregiver had not received training regarding the emergency evacuation, emergency relocation, and shelter-in-place procedures on an annual basis and at the time of each plan update. Evidence: The LI reviewed the two caregiver's records during the inspection. Documentation reviewed in the record of caregiver #2 did not support training in the family day home's emergency procedures on an annual basis.

Plan of Correction: The caregiver has received training in the family day home's emergency procedures. Documentation of the annual review will be kept in the caregiver's record as part of the individual's training log.
