22VAC40-111 Physical Environment and Equipment
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced focused monitoring inspection from 10:00am - 11:45am. There were five children in care for a total of four points with one caregiver. The children were observed at free play. Two children's records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and two were repeated. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A Description: Based on observation, the family day home failed to maintain the home in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the following inside the home: the home was cluttered with several items in the floor and surrounding the sofa in the room where the older children watch television limiting their space; the floor in the main child care room was dirty with dead roaches, dust and dirt on the floor; the wood frame around the entrance door to the main child care room was broken and had sharp edges. Plan of Correction: The provider removed items from both rooms and de cluttered to allow more space for the children. The provider swept and mopped the floor in the main child care room which removed the dead roaches, dust and dirt. The provider has purchased a new door and frame. The new door will be installed by 07/2/2015. The provider will monitor the home to ensure it remains clean, safe and in an operable condition.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-370-A Description: Based on observation, the family day home failed to keep the home free from insect infestation. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed live and dead roaches in the floor in the the main child care room. The provider is currently under contract with an exterminator and the home has had monthly treatments; however, extra cleaning has not been done to keep the home as safe as possible until the insects are exterminated. Plan of Correction: The exterminator treated the home on 07/15/15. The provider moved the couch and cleaned behind it. The provider sprayed in the closets and behind the cabinets. The provider removed some toys from the floor and placed stuffed animals in sealed bags. The provider swept and mopped the floor. The provider will make sure the exterminator sprays behind and under items at the next treatment. The provider will do extra cleaning weekly until the insects are completely removed.
