22VAC40-111 Physical Environment and Equipment

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced focused monitoring inspection from 3:00pm - 4:15pm. One school age child came into care during the inspection (zero points) and there was one caregiver present. The child was observed arriving from school. No records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and one violation was repeated. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Description: Based on observation, the family day home failed to maintain the home in a clean and operable condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the following in the home: the rooms used for child care were cluttered with several items on the floor; in the entrance room there were several items on the table limiting space for children's activities; the floor in the entrance room was dirty with dust and dirt; in the room where the older children watch television, there were several items in the floor surrounding the sofa and on the sofa limiting their space.

Plan of Correction: The provider was cleaning and had several items on the table and on the sofa. The provider has removed all items from the sofa. The provider has removed items from the kitchen table and placed them back in the cabinets. The provider will remove items from the table in the child care main room and keep the table clean for the children to use. The provider will sweep and mop the floor in the child care main room. The provider will throw away things when broken or no longer needed and will keep clutter out of the three rooms used for child care.
