Discussed with Provider that she is not allowed to care for or have more than 5 children in the home during operating hours.
Today an unannounced renewal visit was conducted with the Provider. This visit took place in the morning between 9:00-11:30 upon arrival there were 7 children however 5 children were enrolled in the home and 2 were visiting for a total of 16 points within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed having morning snack, free play, outdoor play, arts and craft, and lunch. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and provider records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-730-D Description: Based on observation, medication were not being kept in a locked place. Evidence: In the closet outside of the bathroom, medications were found unlocked and accessible to children. Plan of Correction: Provider immediately removed the medication and stated that she will place them in a locked box.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-960-C Description: Based on observation, a high chair was being used without a safety strap fastened according to the manufacturer's instructions. Evidence: Upon arrival, one chid was found in a high chair however the child did not have a safety strap fastened. Plan of Correction: Provider immediately fastened the strap during this inspection. Porvider stated that she placed the child in the high chair when she went to open the door for inspector and forgot to fasten strap.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-40-A Description: Based on observation, the provider was caring for more than the licensed capacity. Evidence: Upon arrival, 7 children were present in the family day home with the Provider and an unknown Caregiver #1. Provider stated that she only have 5 children enrolled in her daycare however her friend (Caregiver #1) who has her own daycare is just visiting with her two children. Plan of Correction: Provider stated that she was unaware that she could not have her friends kids in her daycare. The Caregiver immediately left the who with the children and stated that they were taking all of the kids to the park to play.
