22VAC40-111 Physical Environment and Equipment

An announced, non-mandated inspection was conducted at the provider's modification request to change the address of licensure. City approval to care for the requested 12 children has been requested and is scheduled for the city council meeting the third week of July. Both levels of the home and the back yard were inspected. Consultation was provided regarding the spacing of the vertical spindles on the stairway. The spacing does not currently comply with the safe spacing measurements. A safety gate was placed at the fourth riser of the stairway, however the gate was not securely fastened at the time of the inspection. With the provider's permission, two pictures of the staircase were taken. Copies of the pictures will be sent to the provider via email attachments. Due to the height of the first three risers and the ceramic tile flooring at the bottom of the stairs, a physical barrier to the entire staircase must be in place to ensure that the children in care do not have access to the stairs. Background checks and records requirements for household members were discussed. The provider agreed to contact the inspector when the stairway barrier is in place and records for household members have been obtained. Please contact the inspector if there are any questions.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K.
