National fingerprint background check regulations go into effect on 9/30/17.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. The provider and two assistant caregivers were caring for 10 children, totaling 27 points. The children were observed listening to music, reading stories, playing with toys, and enjoying a Spanish lesson. The children were to be served macaroni and cheese, apples, and milk for lunch today. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-120-B Description: Based on a review of caregiver records, it was determined that two records were not complete. Evidence: 1. The file for assistant caregiver #1 does not include: emergency contact information; a second reference check. 2. The file for assistant caregiver #2 does not include: documentation that the provider verified her age; emergency contact information; a second reference check. Plan of Correction: The files will be updated and complete.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-50-A Description: Based on a review of administrative documents, it was determined that the provider has not kept a daily written record of children in attendance. Evidence: The provider did not have a written record of the children in attendance during this inspection. Plan of Correction: I moved the attendance sheets when I decorated for the holidays on Monday, and forgot to return the attendance sheets. I will remember to document the attendance each day.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-60-B Description: Based on a review of children's records, it was determined that one record was not complete. Evidence: Child record #2 does not include documentation to show that the provider viewed the child's original proof of identification. Plan of Correction: I saw the child's birth certificate when the parents enrolled, but I forgot to document it. I will update the documentation.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-290 Description: Based on observations, it was determined that various sharp kitchen items were not stored in a manner to keep them inaccessible to the children. Evidence: In the child care kitchen area a stapler and two pairs of scissors were stored inside lower level drawers. The child safety locks on these drawers have broken. Plan of Correction: I will replace the child safety locks.
