Comments:
An announced initial inspection was conducted of the licensee's home. All household records were reviewed. There was a tour of the home to include the outside areas. The licensee does not plan to transport children at this time.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Based on observation the licensee failed to ensure areas and furnishing of the home, inside and outside, were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: Outside there were 5 tricycles that were rusted.

Plan of Correction: The metal on the tricycles will be painted. Until they are painted they have been removed from play area.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-250-B
Description: Based on observation the licensee failed to ensure children were protected from materials that could be swallowed or present a choking hazard. Toys or objects less than 1-1/4 inches in diameter and less than two inches in length shall be kept out of reach of children under the age of three years. Evidence: The counting blocks in the day care area were less than 1-1/4 inches in diameter and less than 2 inches in length, posing a choking hazard.

Plan of Correction: All small materials will be removed from the day care room and in any areas children under 3 year have access to.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-290
Description: Based on observation and interview, the licensee failed to ensure sharp kitchen utensils were in accessible to children. Evidence: There was an apple cutter in an unlocked drawer in the kitchen. The licensee stated the children eat meals in the kitchen.

Plan of Correction: During the inspection the apple cutter was moved to a locked drawer.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-440-B
Description: Based on observation the licensee failed to ensure guardrails had protective barriers.
Evidence:
The deck did not have a protective barrier on half of the siding creating a crawl space.

Plan of Correction: A barrier will be placed along the decking to enclose the open area.
