The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing office on 03/28/2017. Observations were made regarding allegations that the home is unclean, cluttered and pet hair is on the floors and rugs. The preponderance of the evidence gathered during the inspection supports the allegations; therefore, the complaint is valid. An Intensive Plan of Correction has been requested. If you have any questions, please contact your licensing inspector at (276) 608-3758.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on observation, the provider failed to maintain the family day home on the inside and outside, in a clean and safe condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed outside the home. The front porch was cluttered with several items (chairs, lamp, pet bed, clothes) making it difficult to enter or exit the house from the porch. This exit/entry is not typically used by the children in care, but could be used as an exit in an emergency situation. Outside the door leading to the front room which is primarily used for child care, there was a box of trash sitting on the stoop. The inspector also observed trash (paper plate, foam cup, empty soda containers, food wrappers) in the yard and trash (a plastic bag, empty plastic juice container) in the drive way. The inspector observed inside the home. In the kitchen, there were several items (large cooking pots, containers, bag) sitting in front of the back door blocking this exit/entry. In the front room which is primarily used for child care, the inspector observed several items on the floor and on the rugs (scrap pager, food particles, pet hair, dust and dirt). There were also several items on and under the tables in the front room and kitchen, creating clutter and limiting space for children's activities. The inspector also observed a portable heater sitting on top of a plastic cabinet. The heater was heavy and in an area where a child could pull it down on himself.

Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
