An exit meeting was completed by the licensing inspector with the caregiver to review the inspection findings. A review of background check updates effective 07/01/17 was completed as well.
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from approximately 10:30 am until 1:15 pm to determine the provider's compliance with licensing standards. There were initially ten children present upon the licensing inspector's arrival. During this inspection, there was one child dropped off by a parent which increased the capacity to eleven totaling 38 points being supervised by two caregivers. The children were observed in the designated area playing with age appropriate toys, engaged in active play with peers and staff, listening to soft music, and sleeping in their assigned cribs. The inspector completed observation of the caregiver preparing for lunch. The children's lunch today consisted of ham, biscuits, carrots, mandarin oranges, and milk. The designated areas for childcare were deemed appropriate and equipped with age appropriate toys and materials to meet the needs of the children. During the inspection, the licensing inspector interacted with staff and children when appropriate. The bathroom, kitchen, playground area, and designated childcare areas were all inspected during today's inspection. The inspector observed the required postings to include license, prior inspection summary, and menu. The first aid kit and emergency supplies, posted emergency contacts, fire and shelter-in-place drills were inspected. During this inspection, six children's, the provider's, the provider's assistant, and a household member's records were reviewed for compliance of standards. There are currently no medications being administered by the provider. The licensing inspector completed some but not all licensing standards during this inspection. The violations from the previous inspection were checked for corrections, there were no repeat violations during today's inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-A Description: Based on review of the emergency drills log, the caregiver did not practice drills monthly with all caregivers and children in care.
Evidence: During this inspection, a review of the emergency drills log was completed and the last fire drill recorded was on 05/12/17. The interview with the caregiver confirmed that this was last fire drill practiced and that there were no drills completed in the months of June and July.
Plan of Correction: Provider will immediately complete fire drills and ensure the drills are practiced monthly with all caregivers and children in care.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-60-B Description: Based on review of child's record, the caregiver did not ensure the name, address, and contact number for the second emergency contact was obtained. Evidence: In child's #5 record, there was only one emergency contact information provided in the record. Plan of Correction: Caregiver will obtain second emergency contact information from the parent today.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-90-A Description: Based on review of child's record, the provider did not obtain documentation that the child has been adequately immunized according to the requirements. Evidence: In child#6's record, the inspector reviewed documentation dated 08/08/17 for child's immunization record in the file in which child's first day was 05/29/17. The provider shall obtain documentation that the child was immunized before a child may attend the family day home. Plan of Correction: Provider will ensure all children enrolled documentations for immunization are obtained prior to child's start date.
