Discussion regarding cleaning and sanitizing
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m. with the provider and assistant. There were five children in care ranging in age from three months to three years of age. Children were observed watching an age appropriate television program and having free play. Childcare areas and supplies were observed. Four children's records, two provider records and five household member records were reviewed. Emergency drills were reviewed. Staff training was reviewed. The provider is not Medication Administration Training (MAT) certified and cannot administer medications to children in care. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-900-B Description: Based on observation, children were allowed to walk around and drink. Evidence: A one and half year old child was observed walking around and drinking from a sippy cup. Plan of Correction: The provider removed the cup from the child. Staff will be reminded to have all children sit when having their cup.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-960-E Description: Based on observation, not all bottles were refrigerated. Evidence: There was on bottle observed in the storage area of the daycare. Plan of Correction: The bottle was being used five minutes before and was put aside during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-120-A Description: Based on review of documentation, reference checks were not conducted prior to employment. Evidence: Staff #2, hire date 11/1/2016, reference checks were completed on 6/1/2017 and 6/5/2017. Plan of Correction: In the future, reference checks will be conducted before hire.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-1 Description: Based on review of documentation, criminal history record checks were not conducted within thirty days of employment. Evidence: Staff #2, hire date 11/1/2016, criminal history record was dated 3/2/2017. Plan of Correction: We were under the impression that the staff member had a previous background check but through research realized a new background check must be conducted. In the future, staff will be mailed within the first seven days.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2 Description: Based on review of documentation, central registry background record checks were not conducted within thirty days of employment. Evidence: Staff #2, hire date 11/1/2016, central registry background record was dated 3/9/2017. Plan of Correction: We were under the impression that the staff member had a previous background check but through research realized a new background check must be conducted. In the future, staff will be mailed within the first seven days.
