A Subsidy Health and Safety inspection was conducted today, December 7, 2017 to review supplemental health and safety requirements. The inspection was initiated at 2:15 pm and concluded at 4:30 pm. Upon the inspector's arrival, children were napping. Today five children were in care with one provider for a point value of 12. Later children were observed tossing a soft fabric ball with each other including a younger child. Children also reviewed colors and counted with a wooden ring counter. Children played with the kitchen set preparing food for the provider. The provider and children set up a picnic in the main playroom where they pretended to have a party. The provider interacted in a positive manner with children. All areas of the family day home used for child care were inspected including the outside play area and deck. The provider is currently working on obtaining her CDA. Additional equipment (sand table, wooden blocks, plastic food for the kitchen set and different manipulatives) have been added to the play area. The first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. The family day home had the daily attendance, schedule, menu, License, allergies and emergency numbers posted. Today's snack consisted of pretzels and bananas. Smoke detectors and fire extinguisher were observed. The inspector interacted with the caregivers and children in care. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. No violations of the supplemental subsidy health and safety requirements were found. Two caregiver records were reviewed along with the records for five children in care. Both caregivers have current CPR, first aid training and Virginia pre-service training. The most recent evacuation drill was conducted on 10/07/2017. The two required shelter-in-place drills were completed on 05/16/2017 and 09/12/2017. A lock down drill was completed on 11/06/2017. The provider does not administer medications nor provide transportation. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector at 804-662-9758.
