Technical Assistance:
Notification to the department of an injury requiring outside medical treatment discussed. USDA guidelines reviewed. New background check requirements reviewed.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 01/11/2018 from 10:55am - 1:30pm. At the time of entrance two children were in care with the provider. The ages of the children counted for a total of four points. Children were observed playing with toys, engaged in learning activities with the provider and participating in musical activities. Lunch and nap was reviewed. Records were reviewed for four children, the provider and one household member. The backyard play area only received a cursory review from the back door due to ice and snow on the ground. The violations were reviewed with the provider and are listed on the violation notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-880
Description: Based on observation, the provider failed to ensure that meals meet age appropriate USDA guidelines. Evidence: The lunch served did not have an adequate serving of the required vegetable component. a. Broccoli was mixed in with noodles however, the amount of broccoli did not equal 1/2 cup for the three year old child in care and 1/8 cup for the two-year old child in care.

Plan of Correction: A serving of peas was added to the lunch during the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-90-A
Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider failed to ensure that before a child may attend the family day home, the provider shall obtain documentation that the child has been adequately immunized. Evidence: 1. Child 1 began care on 12/21/2017. Child 1 has attended the FDH this day only. Documentation of required immunizations is not on file for child 1. 2. The provider confirmed that immunizations had not been obtained for child 1.

Plan of Correction: The parent of child 1 is at sea however, immunization information will be requested. The parent will be notified that immunizations must be on file before the child returns to care in March of 2018.
