22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 10:50am-11:50am. There were 3 children(7 points) directly supervised by the provider. The home, provider record, 3 children?s records, evacuation drills, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. There were no medications on site today. Children were observed playing freely and watching a children's program. There was an abundant supply of books, toys, and materials for the children. Paperwork and record keeping were found to be organized andhave improved since the last inspection. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-50-A
Description: Based on record review, the family day home did not keep a record of children in attendance each day. Evidence: January 19, 2018 was the last date that attendance was recorded.

Plan of Correction: I will record attendance each day.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-60-B
Description: Based on record review, not all children's files are complete. Evidence: Child 2's record does not contain the names and addresses for two emergency contacts.

Plan of Correction: I will ask the mom to find two people to identify as emergency contacts.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Based on observation, not all areas of the home are maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: Several slats of the outdoor wooden fence have deteriorated or fallen off creating large gaps in the fence and several areas where sharp wood is exposed.

Plan of Correction: The landlord is aware of the problem and has agreed to replace the fence. Until the repair is made the children will be supervised while outdoors and will not have access to the fence.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-B
Description: Based on observation, child-resistant protective covers larger than 1-1/4 inches in diameter were installed on all unused electrical outlets and surge protectors accessible to children under five years of age. Evidence: Two unprotected outlets were observed b the stacked cots in the sleeping room.

Plan of Correction: I will replace the outlet covers.

Description: Based on observation, the findings from the most recent licensing inspection were not posted. Evidence: The violation notice from 11/20/2017 were not posted in the family day home.

Plan of Correction: I will post the findings from today's inspection.
