22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies

Technical Assistance:
A caregiver means an individual who provides care, protection, supervision and guidance to day care children. Before you hire a caregiver they must first obtain a fingerprint background check and they must meet all of the requirements outlined under assistant and/or substitute provider.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal study was conducted today with the provider, who was present with a toddler and two preschoolers. The children had finished their nap and and lunch, which consisted of chicken nuggets, spinach and fish stew, rice, broccoli and milk. Seven children's files and two household member's files were reviewed today. No medications were on site for any of the children. Arrival time: 2: 30 pm Departure time: 3: 40 pm

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-60-B
Description: Based on a review of seven children's files and an interview with the provider, it was determined that two children's files did not have all of the required information. Evidence: Child A and B enrolled on 6/28/13. When parent information was updated in January 2018, the parents did not list a second emergency contact person for either child.

Plan of Correction: I will get this information from the parent.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-A
Description: Based on observation, it was determined that small appliances were plugged into outlets, these appliances were not being used at the time. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector observed a toaster and blender plugged into outlets, none of these appliances were being used.

Plan of Correction: I will remember to keep small appliances unplugged when not in use.
