Technical Assistance:
The provider recently moved several items out of the main child care area in an effort to reduce the amount of materials in the space. The provider and Inspector discussed further reducing the amount of materials in the home.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. The provider and one assistant caregiver were caring for 8 children, totaling 22 points. Children's records, caregiver training, background checks, children's nutrition, the physical plant, children's programming, and emergency preparedness items were inspected today. The children were observed playing with toys, watching a children's television program, engaging in large motor skill creative play, and interacting with each caregiver. The children were to be served baked pork, rice, bananas, and milk for lunch today. This inspection was completed between approximately 9:45am and 11:50am. Thank you for meeting with me today. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-A
Description: Based on a review of emergency evacuation drills, it was determined that the provider has not conducted an evacuation drill each month. Evidence: The provider did not conduct an emergency evacuation drill during the month of March, 2018.

Plan of Correction: We did a shelter drill that month. I will remember to do a fire drill every month.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one area of the child care space has not been maintained in a safe condition as required. Evidence: The provider has placed several large items in storage in the infant's nap room. There is a large TV, several packed boxes, disassembled cribs, and other home furnishing items stored in the corner of this nap room. Due to the large amount of items stored in the room, it is a possible safety hazard in the event of an emergency evacuation.

Plan of Correction: The items are in the room only temporarily while I'm waiting for them to be taken away. I will have them picked up today or tomorrow.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-E
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that the diaper trash can is not lined as required. Evidence: There is no leak proof plastic liner inside the diaper trash can.

Plan of Correction: I will put the trash bag in the can when I empty the trash.

Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-G-1
Description: Based on a review of personnel records, it was determined that the provider has not completed one background check as required. Evidence: A new assistant caregiver began employment on 8/20/18. The provider allowed this new employee to begin employment without completing the required fingerprint background check.

Plan of Correction: I didn't realize the fingerprinting had to be done before she could start. I needed her to start right away so that I wouldn't be over points. I will make sure she schedules the next available fingerprint appointment. I will send verification to the Inspector within 10 days.

Standard #: 22VAC40-80-120-E-2
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that the provider has not posted the findings from the most recent inspection. Evidence: The provider did not post the Violation Notice issued during the most recent inspection.

Plan of Correction: I will post today's violation notice.
