Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for emergency supplies. The risk assessment for a violation was provided. Also, we reviewed the requirements for children's records, diapering surfaces, storing toxic agents and emergency planning.

Comments:
Thank you for your assistance during today's unannounced initial inspection conducted from 11:40 AM to 3:25 PM. Today, there were four children in care, ages infancy through two years (12 points), with the provider. I viewed staffing, supervision, interactions with children, equipment, diapering procedures, activities, posted information, four records for children, emergency supplies and drill records, emergency response plan, four records for a caregiver and residents, caregiver qualifications, caregiver training, indoor and outdoor areas. The children were provided comfortable accommodations for rest and naps. A variety of age appropriate toys were in the play room. The provider has been a voluntarily registered provider and was familiar with numerous safety practices and record keeping.

Issuance of a six month conditional license will be recommended. Let me know if you need any assistance. 540/430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-770
Description: Based on a review of the emergency supplies, and an interview with the provider, there was not a working portable battery-operated weather band radio available to the caregiver at all times. Evidence: The available radio with extra batteries did not have a weather band station.

Plan of Correction: The provider will purchase a portable radio with the weather band station.
