Comments:
An unannounced renewal Inspection was conducted on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:45am to determine the provider?s compliance with licensing standards. During today?s inspection, there were a total of 7 children in care totaling 16 points with two caregivers. Upon the inspector's arrival, the children were observed coloring, singing songs, dancing, and reviewing the letter of the week. The letter of the week is ?S.? The provider assisted the children sounding out the letter and providing examples of words that start with the letter ?S.? The caregivers were observed assisting the children during bathroom breaks and washing hands. Later, the children were observed playing outside. The caregivers were observed having positive interactions with the children throughout the inspection. All areas used for child care were inspected. The family day home has age and stage appropriate materials and supplies. The required information was posted to include: the license, inspection notice, emergency numbers, daily schedule, menu and various parent information. Lunch today consists of meatloaf, wheat bread, mashed potatoes, corn, and milk. The first aid kit and non-emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. Violations from the previous inspection were checked for corrections. There were no repeat violations today. Two caregiver records and five children's records were reviewed. Medication is not administered by the provider at this time. Last Evacuation Drill: 02/22/2019 Last Shelter-in-place: 09/11/2018 If you have any questions about this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector, Florence Martus, at (804) 662-9772.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-B
Description: Based on a review of documentation on 03/12/2019, the provider did not ensure that shelter-in-place procedures are practiced a minimum of twice per year. Evidence: 1) The record for emergency response drills reviewed by the licensing inspector on 03/12/019 showed that the last shelter-in-place drill was practiced on 09/11/2018. There was no other shelter-in-place drill documented for 2018.

Plan of Correction: Per the Provider: I will make sure that we have two a year.
