Technical Assistance:
On-line CPR and First aid certification do not meet the requirements of FDH standards because an in-person instruction & skills testing is lacking.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 03/28/2019 from 11:45am - 12:45pm. At the time of entrance there were ten children in care with two caregivers. The ages of the children counted for a total of 24 points. The children were observed playing games, singing songs, and watching an educational video in the child care room. One infant was observed napping in a crib. Records were reviewed for nine children, one household member and three caregivers. The backyard play area only received a cursory review due to muddy conditions in the backyard. Violations were observed in three parts of the standards and are listed on the violation notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-140-B-3
Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider failed to maintain current certification in CPR as appropriate to the age of the children in care. Evidence: 1. The CPR certification for the provider expired on 02/25/2019. The provider did obtain an on-line CPR re-certification on 02/02/2019. 2. On-line CPR certification does not satisfy the requirement for CPR certification.

Plan of Correction: The provider stated that she attempted to obtain CPR certification with an in-person skills testing class however, none was available prior to expiration of CPR in February 2019. The provider further stated that she thought that the on-line class she completed would satisfy the requirement for FDH providers. The provider will look for an in-person CPR class within the next 30 to 45 days.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-140-B-4
