- Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for hand washing after diaper changes. The risk assessment for a violation was provided. We reviewed the requirements for limiting television viewing, cleaning and sanitizing procedures, and children's records. Also, we talked about child proofing and doors.
Thank you for your assistance during the unannounced renewal inspection conducted from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Today, there were three children, ages infancy through two years (eight points), with the provider. I viewed daily routines, activities, staffing, supervision, interactions with children, equipment, posted information, four records for children, four caregiver/resident records, caregiver training, emergency plan, emergency supplies and drill records, nutrition/menu, diapering procedures, indoor and oudoor areas. The provider was observed responding to children's needs for care and attention. Toys were available in the play room. Regular outside experiences have been enjoyed, weather permitting. There have not been any minor injuries to treat. No transportation provided. A regular one year license will be recommended. Let me know if you need any assistance. 540/430-9259
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-680-A Description: Based on observation of a diaper change before rest time, and an interview with the provider, the provider did not wash hands with soap and running water after diapering a child and prior to handling a household device. Evidence: The landline phone started ringing as the provider was leaving the area with the diapering mat immediately after a diaper change and wiping an infant's hands. The provider was seen stopping at the bedroom dresser to answer the portable phone and talk briefly. Then the provider replaced the phone on the receiver and then washed hands at the bathroom sink. Plan of Correction: The provider will wash hands before handling anything such as the phone. The provider sanitized the phone that was held.
