Standard 830.B - Shelter-in-place procedures shall be practiced a minimum of twice per year. A shelter drill does not take the place of a monthly fire drill. Discussed removing pole and small ladder from backyard play area.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 04/05/2019 from 11:35am - 12:40pm. At the time of entrance there were four children in care with the provider. One resident child was also in care. The ages of the children counted for a total of 12 points. Children were observed playing with toys and reading books with the provider. Toileting and hand washing was additionally observed. Records were reviewed for the four children in care, the provider and one household member. Violations were observed in two parts of the FDH standards and are listed on the violation notice.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-730-D Description: Based on observation, the provider failed to ensure that medication for household members shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: One bottle of over-the-counter medication was observed on the kitchen counter in the kitchen. The provider stated that this medication was for a household member. Plan of Correction: Medication was put away during the inspection. A locked location will be found for all medication.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A Description: Based on observation, the provider failed to ensure that furnishings of the family day home shall be maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The mirror mounted on the inside of the loft play structure has five areas that are cracked. These cracks measure in length between approximately 10 - 15 inches. a. These cracks are a safety hazard if touched as the glass has the potential to cut a child's finger or hand. Plan of Correction: The mirror will be removed today.
