- Technical Assistance:
Had a discussion with the provider regarding the location of emergency medication for the children. Medication shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Today an unannounced Renewal inspection took place between 10:30am and 12:30pm. There were 4 children present with the provider and 1 assistant for a total of 10 points within the supervision guidelines. During the inspection the children were playing with trucks and cars, working on a fireworks craft and preparing for lunch. Diaper changing and hand washing procedures were observed. Positive interactions between the children and caregivers were observed. There is currently 1 medication at the family day home; medication authorizations were reviewed. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, menu, attendance and emergency procedures were reviewed during this inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-C Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider did not document monthly emergency evacuation drills. Evidence: There is no documentation of a fire drill practiced during the month of June. The provider stated that they practiced one last week (6/28) with four children, but must have forgotten to write it down on the log. Plan of Correction: I'll make sure I write it down each month.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-480-D Description: Based on observation equipment used by children were not used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Evidence: One child was placed into a high chair for lunch. The provider did not use the shoulder straps on the chair when buckling the child into the seat. Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection.
