Technical Assistance:
Had a discussion with the provider regarding the location of emergency medication for the children. Medication shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Today an unannounced Renewal inspection took place between 10:30am and 12:30pm. There were 4 children present with the provider and 1 assistant for a total of 10 points within the supervision guidelines. During the inspection the children were playing with trucks and cars, working on a fireworks craft and preparing for lunch. Diaper changing and hand washing procedures were observed. Positive interactions between the children and caregivers were observed. There is currently 1 medication at the family day home; medication authorizations were reviewed. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, menu, attendance and emergency procedures were reviewed during this inspection. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please email me at

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-C
Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider did not document monthly emergency evacuation drills. Evidence: There is no documentation of a fire drill practiced during the month of June. The provider stated that they practiced one last week (6/28) with four children, but must have forgotten to write it down on the log.

Plan of Correction: I'll make sure I write it down each month.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-480-D
Description: Based on observation equipment used by children were not used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Evidence: One child was placed into a high chair for lunch. The provider did not use the shoulder straps on the chair when buckling the child into the seat.

Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection.
