A supplemental page was provided. This is a reminder that any staff member hired on or after July 1, 2014 must have a completed and clear Criminal History Check on file before they can be left alone with children.
Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced monitoring inspection conducted today, November 20, 2014. The on-site visit was from 10:45 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. On this date, at the time of arrival, there were fifty-three (53) children present in five classrooms. Twenty-five children arrived after school. There were a total of eighty-eight (88) children enrolled in the program. There were nine (9) staff members present and two (2) extra staff members available to assist if needed. The exception to compliance was noted on the violation notice. The risk rating for the violation was discussed. The violation from the previous inspection was reviewed for compliance. Five (5) staff members' records were reviewed and six (6) children's records were reviewed during the visit. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for three (3) children. There were four staff members and five children interviewed. Lunch consisted of hamburgers and buns, french fries, apples, and milk. The center was decorated with the children's Thanksgiving artwork. Center time, story time, songs and fingerplays, handwashing and bathroom procedures, diapering procedures, outdoor play, lunch, nap time, arrival procedures for school age children, afternoon snack, and dismissal procedures were observed during the visit. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation and discussion with staff, three staff members failed to wash their hands after coming in contact with body fluids. Evidence: There were five classrooms observed throughout the day on 11/20/2014. 1. In Classroom # 1, Staff Members # 1, # 2, and # 3 each wiped the nose of a child but did not wash their own hands with soap and running water after coming in contact with the body fluid. Plan of Correction: The director will retrain all staff on the requirements of hand washing for staff as well as children.
