Discussed the standard involving balance mixed age group and the conflicts that may result in ratio being based on youngest child in the group. Discussed case by case situations so that Montessori practice of having 2 staff per grouping can be managed.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today during the afternoon. The physical plant, 54staff records, 2 children? records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. In addition to meeting and talking with the new Administrator, the inspector went and observed the program. Children were observed participating in activities, napping, and preparing for departure transition to departure. Hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of books, educational materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in this report. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-E Description: Based on observation, the center did not set occupied cots at least 12 inches apart. The children were observed sleeping and waking from nap while the cots were side to side approximately 6 inches apart. Plan of Correction: We will put greater side distance apart.
