- Technical Assistance:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 9:45am to 11:45pm. The children were observed working on the curriculum. They were observed learning the letter Qq in the Preschool-Fours class and the number 16 in the Preschool-Threes class. Some of the children in the Two's class were observed playing on the indoor slides nad climbing equipment. The children were also observed participating in an on-site gross motor enrichment program called the Monkey Bus. The infants were observed having floor time and bouncing in exersaucers. Lunch consisted of chicken nuggets, tossed salad, applesauce, cookies and milk. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection. Additionally, when appropriate the inspector interacted with children in each classroom. All classrooms and playgrounds were inspected today. Four children?s records and two employee records were reviewed during this inspection. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation on 03/18/2015, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning products are kept in a locked place that prevents access by children. EVIDENCE: The inspector observed a canister of disinfectant spray on the counter of the changing area in the Toddler/ Two's room. Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place that prevents access by children. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site, spray placed in a locked cabinet.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observation on 03/18/2015, the center did not ensure that the required amount of resilient surfacing was present on the playground. Evidence: Two of five depth samples of mulch taken on the preschool and school age playground measured less than the required amount. The depth samples taken under the swing sets on both playgrounds measured less than 6 inches deep. Per interview with Staff #3, the children have been using the blacktop area for their outside time, they have not played on the equipment on the playground area. Where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards as described in the American Society for Testing and Materials standard and shall be under equipment with moving parts or climbing apparatus. Plan of Correction: Will have mulch raked today or tomorrow. Will have kids not play on the playground until it is raked. Will get mulch shipment at the end of April.
